Chinatown – CNY 2014

image
I visited Chinatown with my family on Thursday to look at the Chinese New Year decorations that they had for this year. This year was the year of the horse so I thought I should go check it out.

The decorations were all along the stretch of Chinatown from People’s Park Centre to Smith Street (if I don’t remember wrongly)

Although all might say Chinese New Year decorations and things that were sold in Chinatown might be the same throughout the years, but there were things and sights that I only believed it when I really saw it for myself.

There were many locals as well as tourists snapping the sights of Chinese New Year in Chinatown; so I thought I should also do the same to capture some good moments!

There was this Koi Kei Bakery that we visited – this is the well-known pastry and bakery shop in Macau that has been around for at least a year (according to the shopkeeper), and I only knew it through my parents and with them watching the TVB HK drama “巨轮”. My parents bought some of those pastries home and especially my dad was very happy with his buys.

As the sky got darker, the lights got brighter and the crowds became larger.

Then I came across Lim Chee Guan (the all-time famous traditional BBQ sliced pork) and the queue was ridiculously long; which is a once-in-a-year thing for the queue for this well-known bakwa. I decided to join in the queue (and not buying anything) just for the fun of it.

From the photo position that I took, you can see where is the queue ending at. LOL but I heard from my friends that there were other times that may be longer than where i stood so I am considered lucky already? But then look at the photo below: it says their signature bakkwa is SOLD OUT!

Then, with that we headed to Bee Cheng Hiang, which had a really nice exterior decor for their building.

This uncle here was very good with his bbq-ing on the meat, he was fast and needed to be like this so that the meat will not be over-cooked.

End product! If you were standing where I did, you will definitely be amazed on the amount of Bakkwa that you were staring right in front of you. Probably if you combine the stack on the left side and the one here, it will be stacked so high up that you might not even see the aunty’s face.

This year’s Chinese New Year exploration was quite exciting, as compared to so many years before, when I was still young and got squashed by all the adults, and if you wear something lesser, the old men will start staring (which is one of the main reason that I dislike Chinatown); but other than that, I like how Chinatown hypes up the CNY feel and I hope that I can celebrate CNY in another country too! (hopefully China, Taiwan or Hong Kong)

“Let us be grat…

“Let us be grateful to the people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom.”
― Marcel Proust

Having the mindset of gratitude everyday has been great so far, and I believe it would bring me further in my everyday life as I look forward to being happy with family and friends that support me! 🙂

The problematic guest

I do not have good things to share for today but I did enjoy myself at work.

I had a phone call with a guest that called me at 5.45pm and he talked to me on the phone for 42 minutes. (Thats the first time I talked on the phone for such a long time). He sounded like a Singaporean.

The guest started asking from Dolphin Observer to Dolphin Discovery, Dolphin Adventure, Dolphin Trek, Dolphin VIP,  Trainer for a day, Marine Life Park, SEA Aquarium, ACW and all its rides, ACW Annual Pass, RWS Invites etc etc.

He even probed why we did not have any more annual passes for aquarium as well as knowing the actual capacity for the ACW itself (which I am not supposed to say at all) and told me to go find out about it.

We were thinking that he might be an internal staff or mystery shopper who was assigned to evaluate our product knowledge. O.o

Despite that, I am grateful and happy that transfering from MLP Guest Services was helpful in dealing with such guests and with my extensive knowledge of Sentosa and the resort itself definitely helped a lot.

I hope I will be able to excel more and maximise my potential as much as I can because time waits for no one.

Sharing good things that happened each day –

1. I am thankful that Edith took time out and came all the way down to RWS to have lunch with me and catching up with life.

2. I was able to assist a guest with his last minute Dolphin VIP booking request with his call that came in at 5.45pm and having everything settled before 6.15pm. The VIP Pavilion was not available tomorrow due to a private event but we were able to arrange it for him to have an exclusive session despite his last minute request which was kindly approved by Dolphin 1 Kumar.

3. Ended work on time efficiently and correctly with all details in with the assistance of Geraldine my closing dajie buddy!

4. Had a good dinner with really great friends at work – Paul and Shermaine by sharing and exchanging life experiences, at the same time encouraging each other to strive to be better in life.

To be continued.

Gratitude

I had a friend who asked me this question, “do you spend most of your time at work?” My answer was yes. So she told me that I should find ways to make myself happier since I spend most of my time at work if not it will be very hard if I do struggle.

I haven’t had very good times at work recently, due to politics and probably due to some negative influences. After some talk with some friends, it kinda opened up my mind – “hey, life is too short to be troubled or unhappy about. I should continue to be what I have been and be happy about everything.”

So I went to google on “ways to be happier” – and one of those that I saw was very interesting with scientific facts. http://blog.bufferapp.com/10-scientifically-proven-ways-to-make-yourself-happier

There was one – find things that you have done/happened to you throughout the day that you are grateful for. It struck me in such a way that I thought I should be be grateful and stop finding excuses for myself. I will constantly remind myself and remind myself to write 3 things that I am grateful for each day and I hope that this would be a great mental support be it at work or outside work.

This will start today.
